"Badly in need of modernisation.
I will say that I liked Pendra Loweth. A lovely spot in pleasant surroundings with decent facilities such as the tennis courts, plunge pool and jacuzzi. You do have to drive just about everywhere though. Don't be fooled by the stroll through the lanes bit in the description. Maenporth is the nearest (and best) beach. Only 5 minutes in the car but you'd certainly be taking your life in your own hands if you walked. Totally unsuitable if you have children with you. Anyone familiar with narrow Devon and Cornwall lanes will know exactly what I mean.
Now, Rainbow's End. Would I recommend it? No. Would I stay there again? No. Am I disappointed after using Sykes for the first time? Yes. The entire house is in desperate need of modernisation and is not family friendly in any way. The glassware, crockery and cutlery look like they're from a second hand shop or are owners cast offs, mismatched and unsuitable. The same for the items of furniture in the living room and bedrooms. The TV/DVD/whatever is out of the Ark and either doesn't work at all (DVD player) or is so poor you just give up in frustration. The loud buzzing from the ancient TV a particular favourite. We were met with a full dishwasher, blown light bulbs, broken blinds and window locks hanging off. The electric shower worked when it felt like it, when it didn't feel like it it appeared to run dry and sounded like it was going to explode. My wife refused to use it. A bath wasn't much of an alternative as the hot water was limited, it took an age to fill and we had to buy a bath mat from Asda just so we could safely wash our children. Best of all there's no freezer. So don't arrange for a supermarket delivery on arrival like we did because you'll end up throwing half of it away. Just like we did!
I got the distinct impression that there was a "that'll do" attitude to the facilities at Rainbow's End. An attitude that used to be much more prevalent in popular tourist spots such as Cornwall. Luckily most owners have realised that reviews get published online and families will go elsewhere. If you're a family looking for somewhere to stay in Cornwall I suggest you avoid Rainbow's End and take Sykes descriptions with a pinch of salt." - 2 star rating
